SOUTH CAROLINA BAN ON GAY MARRIAGE OVERTURNED
The 2006 ban on same-sex marriage in South Carolina was ruled unconstitutional Wednesday. Colleen Condon and Ann Bleckley filed a lawsuit against the state after being denied a marriage license in October, U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel made his ruling in favour of the couple today. A temporary stay has been granted in the case, halting marriage licenses for same-sex couples until November 20th, the governor and attorney general are expected to challenge the court’s decision.
This is just the latest in sweeping victories for marriage equality in the United States, currently 32 states have marriage equality, South Carolina will make 33.
Congratulations South Carolina!
